Sebastopol Geese

The Sebastopol Goose was accepted into the American Poultry Association in 1939.

These gorgeous geese originated in southeastern Europe and are named after the Black Sea port city in Russia.  There they are kept primarily as utility birds, but here in North America, they are ornamental birds or pets.  These birds have exceptional personalities and are excellent show birds.  There beautiful feathering make them eye appealing and a good coversation peice.  This feathering is elongated up to four times the length of the feathers found in other breeds of geese.  The bill of these geese is orange in color along with deep orange shanks and feet.  Their blue eyes stand out with their pure white plumage.
The birds and eggs on this page belong to one of our long time members, Mr. Dave Kozakiewicz of
Hindsight Farm in Ann Arbor, MI.  Dave got his birds from the late Mr. W.C. "Bill" Garber of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada.  Dave has raised the Garber strain of Sebastopol Geese since 1972.  HPBAA would like to take our hats off to Dave for his devotion to this beautiful graceful creature.  Dave loves working with these geese and learns more about them every day.  "A good Sebastopol in full feather is just awesome.  It can be hard to believe that they are real" says Dave.  Thank you Dave for your contribution of the Sebastopol to HPBAA.
The photos to the left are of a Sebastopol Goose egg in comparison to a regular chicken (Marans) egg.  Below in the first row you have the two first photos of a group of females and the last of a single male (gander).  The larger photos at the bottom are of a male (gander) first and then of a female (goose).
