A Salmon Faverolle Rooster of the Catalpa Grove Line from Ms. Pamela Mynard Christopher of Little Creek Farms in Victoria, TX.
Salmon Faverolles are named for a village in France and was developed in the mid-nineteenth century. There is uncertainty of this breeds bloodlines due to the lack of good record keeping. However it is believed that this breed was developed from the crossing of Dorkings, Houdans, Brahmas, Langshans, & Cochins. There is also some speculation that a five toe Belgian breed known as the Maline was used with a Brahma. Regardless of the breeds involved, this bird now breeds true and is a magnificant addition to the poultry world. These birds are known for good table qaulity & strong production of light brown eggs in winter months. They are an easy handled bird, although said to be agressive toward other breeds. Popular for showing, these birds are sure to take first place in the ring with the males exhibiting strong contrasting wheat and mahogany red on black. The beard, muff, & feathered legs just add to the birds character. The Faverolle was accepted by the American Poultry Association in 1914. There are now many color varieties of Favorelle but only the Salmon and the White varieties are recognized by the A.P.A.
More Favorelles

The Salmon Faverolles in the photos above are of the Catalpa Grove Line. These birds belong to Ms. Pamela Mynard Christopher of Little Creek Farms in Victoria, Texas. Pam has been breeding the Favorelles of this line for more than six years now. Way to go Pam! HPBAA says keep up the good work on these gorgeous birds.

The Black Favorelles in the photos above are of the Little Creek Line. They belong to Ms. Pamela Mynard Christopher of Little Creek Farms in Victoria, TX. Pam originally obtained these birds from Catalpa Grove Farm. Catalpa Grove Farm bred a Salmon Favorelle Male with a Black Orpington female of thier lines. The result was all black offspring. They then did a sibling breeding and culled the black offspring produced from that which exhibited gold. They then took those black offspring back to the Salmon Faverolle again and kept the Black offspring from that breeding. Ms. Pamela Mynard Christopher obtained a Black Rooster and three Blue Hens from Catalpa Grove Farm in October of 2007. She selectively bred these birds and in 2010 reached an agreement with Catalpa Grove Farm that the results of Pam's selective breeding meant that the line of birds were to be named the Little Creek Line of Black, Blue, & Splash Faverolles. This came about because Ms. Christopher had taken the birds to the Blue Bonnett Classic show in Texas and won the championship with her Black Favorelle Rooster. This was in 2010 and Pam is still preserving these birds today. HPBAA would like to thank Pam for her hard work with these birds. A job well worth the endeavor!
