Call Ducks

The Call Duck is one of a compact tiny appearance.  Their tiny beaks and fairly large eyes give them a bright appearance.  These ducks have rounded heads on a short neck with a squat rounded body.  Although small in size, Call Ducks got their name because of their loud chatty voice.  Most poultry historians think the ducks were developed in northern Europe in the seventeenth century.  At is also thought that the Europeans may have gotten the intial breeding stock from Japan or China.  The purpose for the ducks was to draw in wild ducks as game with their loud quacking.  Call Ducks are now primarily raised for show, but do make excellent pets   They are very active little ducks with a docile disposition.  The females have smaller more femine beaks than the males.  This is just an all around beautiful little duck that comes in many color varieties.  They were accepted into the American Poultry Association in 1874.
